THE WRITER

Wow. It’s amazing to think Little Foolery has been here for ten years. I’m amazed that we’ve managed to tell stories that reach this many readers for that long. Thank you all for following us this long.

I guess if we’re exact, Little Foolery started with Sfeer Theory, ten years ago, a story that I came up with while extremely bored at my job as a museum security guard.

But if I’m honest, Little Foolery started a few years before that, when I got a random IM from someone who really loved a fanfic I’d posted on ff.net. That someone was Chira, and I didn’t realize she’d end up becoming my best friend, along with being my biggest, most loyal fan. I was barely into my first year at college. The fanfic in question was posted from my library in high school. And, at the time, I still had to be convinced to post most of anything on even a fan-site — but, under Jayd’s encouragement, I branched out, and I’m really glad I did. I don’t think I’d be the writer or the person I’d be without her.

Little Foolery has grown as we’ve grown. From stories that were heavily based on whatever book or video game or movie we were into at the time, to original fiction that spans a hell of a lot of genres, I think we’ve really come to spread our wings.

Some of you have been with us from the beginning. Some of you are just joining us. But I’m so glad you’re here. Thank you, Jayd, for believing in me. And thank you all, our fans, for supporting us for ten amazing years.

We still have so many stories to tell.

— Alex "Muun" Singer

THE ARTIST

In 2009, I proposed starting Little Foolery as a way of collecting Alex's stories in one place. She freshly graduated university and had been doing original stories more frequently. I kept drawing fanart of her stories, both out of love and  support, but many failed to recognize what I was promoting. I had a personal website server I wasn't using for more than image hosting, and, out of exasperation, I decided to attribute a domain to it and make a site where people can find her stories, and the art that inspired it, easily and conveniently. She had no official archive or portfolio for her writing, and I've long self-appointed myself as her librarian, anyway.

I asked her, "So what should we call our domain?" It was a throw-away question, a to-do task on something I was throwing together in an afternoon. We turned to Shakespeare a lot for help with titles, so we did it then, too, and found what became our titular quote from the play As You Like It. "Yeah, that works, it's cute!" she said. "Okay, cool," I said. Named, coded, published. Little Foolery. Just like that.

I had no conception that my pragmatism for organization would later nurse an independent creative career over the next decade. Something I conceived only as a self-indulgent hobby for fun with my best friend, who also happens to be my favorite writer in the world, ended up being something that grew me in ways I couldn't imagine, and connected me to a future and world full of people I treasure deeply. This site became an avenue to not only uplift ourselves, but also others.

To everyone we touched, and at the same time touched us: thank you.

— Jayd "Chira" Aït-Kaci
