It was believed monarchs of history were chosen by divine providence, and the same can be said for Royals: human anomalies capable of supernatural abilities. In response, the Court exists as an unofficial means to host, collect, counsel, and facilitate Royals for societal balance and public good.

Felix Lowe is a Royal known for his ability to manipulate shadows, earning him infamy as the Court's best espionage agent — at least, up until the day he suddenly defected and went on the run.

The Court wants him back. His enemies just want him. And his handler, Jolanka, can be counted as both, and she wants to come for Felix's soul.
